Hello

My Approach

My Approach

My approach to counselling is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a deep commitment to supporting your growth and well-being. My aim is to support you in a transformative healing experience that will lead to greater ease, presence, and delight in life and relationships.

I believe for counselling to be truly effective, we must take into account the interconnectedness of your cognitive, emotional, and somatic experiences.

Not only is one impacted by their self-talk and core beliefs but they are also highly impacted by the state of their nervous system and their bodily experience. My passion is to help you understand this interconnectedness and your unique experience of it. Throughout our time together I will support you in processing the past experiences and conditioning that is impacting your present-day thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and behaviors. This requires a holistic and personalized approach that helps you to regulate your nervous system, release trauma from the body, and reframe negative thoughts and beliefs.  I do this through a combination of traditional talk therapy, psychoeducation, mindfulness-based approaches, reprocessing therapy, and body-oriented techniques.

I prioritize trust, connection, and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. It is my commitment to provide you with a safe and supportive environment so that you feel comfortable to explore your vulnerabilities and strengths, fostering self-awareness and self-trust. I will champion your innate wisdom so that you are empowered to make conscious choices and develop healthier relationships with yourself and others.

Therapeutic approaches that I use include:

Somatic EMDR

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

Hypnotherapy

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Polyvagal Theory

My Story

I have worked in human services and mental health for over 20 years. In addition to my work as a counsellor, I have extensive experience providing abilities and education support, mindset coaching, facilitated self-inquiry programs, designing and leading group meditations and mindfulness practices, and supporting women and families throughout the perinatal period.

I hold a University Certificate in Counselling Women, a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (a designation of BC Association of Clinical Counsellors), a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Hypnotherapist, a Certified Somatic EMDR Practitioner, and Certified Addictions-Informed Mental Health Professional. I have completed advanced training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Gottman Couples Therapy.

In my personal life I love spending time outdoors, especially if it involves water. I live for quiet mornings, good music, and new experiences. I cherish my friends and community and am deeply grateful to live on the unceded traditionally territory of the K’omoks First Nation. I am blessed to be a mom to two adventuresome young men who have taught me more about myself than anyone else ever could.
